AMVETS is one of America's oldest and foremost veterans’ service organizations providing support to American veterans. The Legislative Department focuses on achieving the goals adopted by members in annual resolutions related to protecting veterans' benefits, rights, and funding.

The intern will assist in tracking key legislation and the voting records of members of Congress; s/he will become familiar with Capwiz and the sending of action alerts. Additionally, s/he will monitor the broader political landscape and conduct background research on priority issues and members of Congress. The intern will get an up close look at legislative affairs and government relations from the perspective of a non-partisan, non-profit organization; occasionally, s/he may attend meetings on Capitol Hill with legislators and their staff.
